FIREPLACE - SURROUND TILES FROM "Oakhurst" SOLD

Oakhurst Tiles
"Oakhurst," designed for Charles Gardner Johnson in 1912 by architect Robert Mackay Fripp, is a classic Arts and Crafts rural estate that originally occupied the property east of Oak Street between 57th and 59th Avenues. Today, the house stands on 58th Avenue and is being rehabilitated as part of a larger redevelopment.

The tiles were donated to the VHF from Polygon Homes Ltd. to be sold for fundraising purposes. They are a rust red and green and hand made. They measure about 4" x 2" with some small ones at 1"x 1". They came from two fireplaces. Don Luxton, who is the heritage planner on the project, estimates that there are enough salvaged tiles for one fireplace and part of another. Only some of them are cleaned up, i.e. the cement etc. taken off.

Asking price: $600 SOLD!
