Vancouver Heritage Foundation: created as a private, charitable organization in 1992 by the Mayor and Council of the City of Vancouver, who remain its honorary patrons until today. Under the direction of a private citizen Board of Directors, the Foundation assists with the conservation of Vancouver's built heritage, in recognition of its public benefit.

The Vancouver Heritage Foundation appreciates its Friends and supporters. Without your contributions our education, public awareness and granting activities would not happen.

To help preserve heritage buildings in Vancouver you can:

1. BECOME A FRIEND of the Vancouver Heritage Foundation

2. BECOME A PILLAR of the Foundation by making a contribution to the Vancouver Heritage Conservation Fund at the Vancouver Foundation. All endowment fund gifts receive a full charitable tax receipt.

Your charitable gift to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation Endowment Fund is securely and professionally invested and managed by the Vancouver Foundation, the largest community foundation in North America. Fundraising events and annual Friends donations alone cannot secure Vancouver's heritage streetscapes and neighbourhoods for future generations to enjoy. An endowment fund gift continues to give beyond your lifetime. Returns on your investment will help to maintain and restore heritage buildings in this century and beyond.

3. Leave a Gift in Your Will

Charitable bequests in your will are an important element in your estate plan. They enable you to create a lasting partnership with the Vancouver Heritage Foundation that will help to ensure the protection of heritage buildings into the future.

There are many ways to give to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation in your will. We encourage you to talk with your personal financial advisor such as your accountant or your lawyer about leaving a gift in your will to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation. Together with the Vancouver Heritage Foundation you can realize your philanthropic goals and establish a lasting testament to your name that meets your specific needs, vision and objectives.

Ways you can give in your will include:

A cash gift or a residual (percentage) portion of your estate after family and loved ones are taken care of.
Leave a heritage property to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation knowing that the organization is committed to ensuring its preservation.
Name the Vancouver Heritage Foundation as the beneficiary of an insurance policy.
Leave the Foundation a stock portfolio.

4. A Gift of a Life Income Plan

Give a Gift that benefits both you and the Vancouver Heritage Foundation by setting up:

Charitable Gift Annuity which will provide you and/or your designees with an annual income stream while creating a permanent legacy after your death.
Charitable Remainder Trust which will create a legacy in your name and you will receive income from the trust for life or for a specified term of years. For example you can gift your house or some other asset to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation but live in the house or use the asset until the end of your life at which time it reverts to the Foundation. You receive the tax benefit in the year in which you make the Gift.
Charitable Lead Trust is both an income and a wealth transfer vehicle, enabling you to pass income-producing assets to the next generation at a significantly lower tax cost, while achieving your philanthropic objectives.
