February 18 – 24, 2019
Heritage Week offers a chance to explore heritage across BC and Canada. In 2019, the theme is “Heritage: The Tie That Binds”. Heritage in all its forms has the power to bring people together and create a sense of belonging. Gathering places like community places, religious buildings, public squares and parks, and traditional sites, as well as cultural objects such as artifacts, memorabilia and family items are tangible touchstones with the past that connect us to history and can serve as a base for engaged communities. Intangible heritage, which includes languages, food, traditional rituals, music, dance, storytelling and more, is at the heart of family and community.
In celebration of our past and our future, Heritage Week offers a chance for all Canadians to visit museums, historic sites and cultural centres and connect with others in learning about and celebrating cultural heritage.
Below are highlights from 2018 Heritage Week. Check back in early 2019 for event listings and ways to engage with Vancouver’s heritage.
