Heritage House Tour Online

Winner of the 2022 BC Heritage Award for the COVID-19 Pivot Project

This June, the Heritage House Tour returned in a virtual format! Through a series of curated video tours, two live events (May 31 and June 2) and our exclusive Heritage House Tour web portal, we explored the stories of six unique properties around the city.

While we cannot step through the doors together this year, we are grateful for this special opportunity to step inside these remarkable homes virtually.

Thank You

The virtual format of the tour this year was made possible by the generosity of homeowners, residents and building owners, expert guides, tour sponsors, and volunteers.

Heritage House Tour 2021 Online

Between June 3rd – 17th, we toured through six unique homes and explore their stories, past and present, from early architects, builders and residents to more recent restorations and adaptations for modern living. While we could not step through the doors together this year, we are grateful for everyone who joined us for this special opportunity to step inside these remarkable homes virtually.

In two virtual events, we visited a 1958 award-winning Mid-Century Modern home, an 1890s Strathcona home, a grand Shaughnessy estate home, a 1928 apartment and a 1912 Craftsman home. We enjoyed original interior features, craftsmanship, and unique design, and explored the history and heritage significance of each house across five different Vancouver neighbourhoods.

Our knowledgeable guides were civic historian John Atkin, heritage consultant Donald Luxton, architectural historian Jim Wolf,  artist and author Michael Kluckner, homeowner Joanne Rankin, and homeowner and architect James Burton. All were on hand to answer questions during the events to share more about each of the homes and local history.

As part of the Heritage House Tour Online in 2020 and 2021, VHF created additional mini-map guides for those keen to discover more of Vancouver’s heritage. Stroll through historic Hastings-Sunrise and vibrant Central Mount Pleasant neighborhoods, then explore the area from West Point Grey to West Kitsilano.
